Ashley Coake, CFP®
As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, I get to help people every day. They email or call me about financial uncertainty or ask questions about their money and I get to help them make sense of their situation. It’s rewarding to put a plan in place that allows a client to do things they didn’t think they could afford to do.
My exposure to financial planning came while I was attending Radford University. I had the privilege of gaining firsthand, investment experience when a professor recommended I join the Student Managed Investment Portfolio Organization (SMIPO). As a team, we bought and sold stocks to build a special fund set up by the Radford University Foundation. We ran the fund like an actual business and it continues today. I was the first woman to serve as president of SMIPO and I am proud to serve on its Board of Directors currently and watch students benefit as I did from this great opportunity.
My career path has always taken a financial direction. Throughout my college education I worked for National Bank in Blacksburg. I continued working there after graduating and reached the position of assistant branch manager. Wanting more opportunity and remembering how much I enjoyed the work I did in the SMIPO program, I joined a broker- dealer firm where I managed investments. I soon came to believe there had to be more to a complete financial picture than just investments and joined JSW Financial. I love the connections I have made with our clients and now with OLIO Financial Planning, I am excited to build new relationships.
Living on a farm in Pulaski County, my days start with feeding our animals. The chickens, ducks and pigs provide entertainment for my husband, Matt and me. At moments, they definitely have a mind of their own, but when it’s feeding time, they come running. We hope to add cows soon to the mix and keep the barnyard fun going.
